For every hat purchased, we give a hat to someone in need of warmth
It's fashionable to help those in need!
For every hat purchased, we give a hat to someone in need of warmth
Hat Without A Home started as a project during the early days of the Covid-19 Pandemic. After breaking the screen on my iPhone (and having my father refuse to fix it), I decided to tap into my inner entrepreneur to find a way to earn some extra money. I tend to be crafty, and like to sew, and so I searched YouTube until I found my idea- CUSTOM BEANIES.
I immediately pitched my father on my product and asked him what he would pay for a custom knit hat to keep his head warm. I leveraged my mother’s favorite phrase "if your head was warm so was the rest of your body…” then tapping into my best salesmanship to foster generosity “it will even warm your heart". I shut up and just waited for his answer. He opened his wallet, counted his money, and replied "I will pay you $36".
Back to YouTube to find the tutorial. After several failed attempts, I nailed the size, shape, and color...even for his big head. I delivered the product and collected my price. I immediately realized I was on to something. There was a connection between a warm head and a warm heart, and even though there were many people that sell hats on Amazon, on Etsy, and other sites - I could create a great product that solved a real problem.
Taking inspiration from Tom’s Shoes, Warby Parker, & Honest Co, I decided that for every hat we sold, we would make one for a person in need. Instead of handing it out on behalf of the customers (though we are happy to do so) we send an extra hat with their custom offer so that they could be personally involved in the act of kindness and caring for someone in need.
